About Marilyn Morningstar

Marilyn Morningstar Marilyn Morningstar has always been passionate about art. Her work includes realistic pastel paintings of the scenic Southwest United States, abstract acrylics, mixed media, and photographs from her various travels. She graduated with honors from The University of Houston, 1969, with a concentration in Interior Design. Marilyn has taken classes and art workshops with distinguished artists such as Don Vogl, Pat Cashin, Claudette Barker, Susan Ogilvie, Mike Beeman, Jean Hirons, Ken Elliott, Patti Andre and Diane Edwards. She began painting after retiring from Colorado State University. She has shown her work at the Fort Collins Senior Center (winning 1st or 2nd place in the pastel category for the past several years). Pastels, acrylics, mixed media and photographs have been exhibited at the National Greeley Art Exhibition, a juried show in 2019, Pastel Society of Colorado, juried in 2017 and 2019, Colorado Coalition of Artists, the Artists Association of Northern Colorado, the Poudre River Arts Center, Bas Bleu Theatre, the Cultural Arts Center of Estes Park, the Loveland Library, Colorado State University, Carnegie Center for Creative Arts, Brighton City Hall, Unitarian Church, Fort Collins, Lincoln Gallery, Loveland, the PACE Center, Parker, CO and 3 Square Art in Fort Collins. Her painting, "Sunswept" won a competition and was hung in Jared Polis' office in Washington, D.C. for a year. It also won Best of Show at the Carnegie Center for Creativity (FortCollins, CO) in 2016 (among 75 pieces of art). Her mixed media works include acrylic paint, re-purposed beads, fabric and wood with the look of African folk art. Photography of portraits and close-up flowers are her favorites. Marilyn's home and studio are in Fort Collins, Colorado. She has traveled to Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, Israel, Canada (train trip from west to east), Italy, Europe (Viking river cruise), Russia, England and Scotland. She is a member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and a previous member of the Loveland Photographic Society (winning many ribbons).
